Reduction of raw materials used by the Poste Italiane Group
The Group, in line with its commitment to sustainable development, has launched a series of projects aimed at reducing the consumption of materials and proper waste management, specifically through the reduction and containment of paper consumption, achieved also thanks to the dematerialisation of documents and the maximisation of the share of waste that can be sent for recycling or reuse.
Paper reduction in logistics centres
In 2025, the Poste Italiane Group worked to reduce the paper used in its logistics centres. In particular, the paperless project promotes the digitisation of processes within the Poste Italiane Group’s centres with the aim of:
- reduce paper and toner consumption related to printing;
- reduce storage space;
- reduce waiting time for printouts and archiving;
- reduce the number of printers and their running costs.
The project saw the introduction of technical improvements to reduce paper consumption in 2024 (-7.0 million sheets) and 2025 (-26 million sheets) such as:
- elimination of SAD lists;
- introduction of electronic marching sheets;
- letter-wrapping bundles;
- reduction of contradictory copies;
- electronic closure of the budget in CDs
Digitisation of “waybills”
The Group has initiated a project to digitise the “waybills” that accompany all shipments during transport and contain essential information about the cargo. The initiative is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
Full Digital Project for Legal Value Postal Services (Digital Postcard and Digital Duplicate Return Postcard)
During 2025, the Group implemented the Full Digital Project with the aim of reducing the paper-based management of delivery evidence by digitising around 5 million return postcards in near real time. The implementation of the Project is planned for 2026, with an expected result of about 12 million digitised return items near real time.
